Starting a few days ago, France Culture had a great idea : rebroadcast the interviews of June 1986, directed by Andre Mathieu and produced by Alberte Grynpas N’Guyen.
There are very few audio recordings of Zao Wou-Ki and along these five sessions, we follow him from his first days at the school of fine arts in Hanghzou to his final move to Paris. He openly talks about his childhood, China and the state of Chinese painting when he got back there in 1985, but he also tells about his links with Henri Michaux, Edgar Varese, Pierre Loeb, and more about his feelings when facing a white canvas and the way to work with inks and to create paintings. An original way of rediscovering Zao Wou-Ki still very much alive when it has been exactly five years since he died.
