Final settlement of Zao Wou-Ki’s inheritance in 2015.

We are happy to be able to announce that Zao Wou-Ki’s estate has now been officially and finally settled.

An agreement has been reached between Ms. Françoise MARQUET, sole legatee and widow of the painter and the children and heirs of the artist, Mr. Jia-Ling ZHAO and Ms. Sin-May ROY.

This agreement has been re-transcribed in a deed representing the final outcome of their concerted efforts for a return to a climate of appeasement, thus ending old pointless disputes, to preserve ZAO Wou-Ki’s heritage.

The direct consequence of this agreement has been the recognition by the French jurisdictions of the end of the legal proceedings initiated by Mr. Jia-Ling ZHAO, through an order of abandonment of suit and action made by the Paris district court on April 15th 2015.

At the same time, the striking from the roll of legal actions made in Switzerland against the inheritance of ZAO Wou-Ki has been pronounced by the jurisdictions of the Vaud Canton in a decision dated April 21st 2015, on the basis of the agreement signed between the sole legatee and the heirs of the deceased.

Ms. Françoise MARQUET is now free to dedicate all her energy to pay tribute to the memory of ZAO Wou-Ki and to go on devoting her life to the perpetuation of his Work across borders.

Having for so many years been the privileged witness of the creative impulse of ZAO Wou-Ki, Ms. Françoise MARQUET is determined to keep the work of the artist alive through exhibitions organized throughout the world, as her husband would have wished it.
