The cultural center of China in Paris presents an exhibition of recent paintings and prints that had been decided during the lifetime of the artist. It is the first exhibition in France after the death of the artist. To honor the memory of Zao Wou-Ki, several donations were made by his wife Françoise: the Musée cantonal des beaux-arts de Lausanne receives the donation of the large canvas tribute to Edgar Varèse - 25.10.64 (255 x 345 cm) and the Musée de La Poste in Paris nine watercolours that had been made for the creation of the Zao Wou-Ki stamp in 1995.

The Musée d'Art de Pully to Lausanne in Switzerland presents the exhibition Zao Wou - Ki and poets, dedicated to illustrious bibliophile books and prints by the artist. This exhibition is also an opportunity to supplement the collections of this museum with 50 prints and some bibliophile books donated by his wife Françoise.

The collection of Zao Wou-Ki, exchanges with his friends painters throughout his life, is given in full in October at the Museum of the Hospice Saint-Roch of Issoudun.

Two Swiss institutions highlight Zao Wou-Ki in the fall: the Fondation Bodmer in Cologny, Geneva, exploring his relations with Henri Michaux, while the Pierre Gianadda Foundation in Martigny organizes an extensive retrospective of his work.

The Nantong Museum in China presents an exhibition of prints and illustrated books by the artist in the spring. As Zao Wou-Ki spent his childhood in Nantong, it is a return to the source, where the artist conducted his first years of study before joining the school of fine arts in Hangzhou in 1935.

The Museum of the Hospice Saint-Roch of Issoudun organises the exhibition of the donation of the collection of Zao Wou-Ki, accompanied by some thirty works by the artist. The exhibition is accompanied by a book which recounts his friendly relations with the artists of his generation, extensively documented and illustrated.

The collection of Chinese objects of Zao Wou-Ki and an important collection of works on paper and ceramics created by the artist between 1947 and 2005 are given to the Cernuschi Museum in Paris. The donation is unveiled from June to October. The artist is present within the first French museum collections, which presented his works in 1946, even before his arrival to Paris.

The sword of academician of Zao Wou-Ki, as well as a book of studies of nudes and a selection of figurative drawings of the 1948-1949 years enrich the collections of the Academy of Fine Arts of Paris. They are solemnly received by the Académie des Beaux-Arts on June 24 and deposited at the Musée Marmottan-Monet. Held in trust at the Museum Marmottan-Monet, they were presented to the public in October and will remain on display throughout 2017.

2016-2017

The exhibition, organized by the Colby College Museum of Waterville (Maine – USA), is presented from September 9th 2016 to January 8th 2017 at the Asia Society Museum of New York, before continuing at the Colby College Museum in Maine (USA) from February 4th to June 4th 2017. It offers the opportunity to show the links existing between Zao Wou-Ki and the United States where he exhibits his paintings as early as the 50’s, and where museums keep many of his important works.

The Lévy Gorvy Gallery in New York compares for the first time the works of Willem de Kooning and Zao Wou - Ki. This original exhibition illustrates the place of these two artists in the major American Museum collections (Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, MoMa in New York, Art Institute of Chicago), as well as in prestigious private collections.
