La Chine en France, « L’ESPACE EST SILENCE, Exposition de peintures de Zao Wou-Ki au Musée d’Art moderne de Paris »

An artist at the meeting point of several worlds, Zao Wou-Ki leaves China in 1948 to come to live in Paris at a time when the ‘living art’ starts to be shared between the United States and France. His work goes through aesthetic debates that characterise the development of modern art, and even if he is part of the Parisian scene which he appreciates, he very quickly feels the vitality of American painting. He will also gradually return to certains characteristics of Chinese painting which he deliberately diverged from.
