Transfuge, « Le signe ne le quitte pas » by Damien Aubel

A magnificent exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art to walk down Zao Wou-Ki’s work. Meeting with François Michaud, co-curator, between China, poetry and Rembrandt.

Zao Wou-Ki or when painting overflows. The patriarch of the brush, who passed away at the age of 93, in 2013, showered with honors and recognition, was resistant to conveniently restricting labels. Born in China, in 1920, he settled in Paris in 1948, received the French nationality in 1964, thanks to André Malraux, but even if yielding to American tropism, more especially during his roaming period at the end of the 50’s, the man always remained halfway between the East and the West.
