Les Echos, « La sublime peinture de Zao Wou-Ki » by Judith Benhamou-Huet
David Stekert/Budd Studio/Zao Wou-Ki/ADAGP, Paris 2018
The Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris proposes an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the large formats (up to more than five meters longs) painted by Zao Wou-Ki, an innovative pratice that he started in the 50’s. A revelation ! Born in China in 1920 and deceased in Paris in 2013, the artist is regarded as an upstanding member of the history of French post-war painting. For theTaïwanese, his biggest collectors out of France, his painting is considered as having Chinese virtues even if it took him a long time to assume them. But this spectacular exhibition shows most of all that Zao Wou-Ki is imbued with American abstraction.
