New presentation of the Art Institute of Chicago’s permanent collection of modern art

In another sign of the continuous reintegration around the world of Zao Wou-Ki’s work into post-war Western painting, the Art Institute of Chicago has had Pink composition (1951, 87 x 114.3cm) on show in Gallery 291 since late September.

Given to the museum in 1954 by the great collector James W. Alsdorf after he bought Main Street Gallery in the city, the work is displayed alongside pieces by great post-war American artists including Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Rauschenberg, Jay DeFeo, Sam Francis and British sculptor Barbara Hepworth.
